Health and environmental issues such environmental degradation, genetic engineering, infectious diseases, obesity,  pollution, nuclear issues, overpopulation, ozone depletion, energy, climate change, toxins, waste, resource depletion, etc continue to pose a significant challenge to human race. Recognizing and detecting these issues and devising an innovative approach to dealing with these challenges and communicating appropriate messages to the public is very crucial. It is with the recognition of these issues that Health and Environmental Education Corps (HEEC), a Lamar University student organization,  was founded in 2009 by Dr. Msengi to become one of the tools to confront the current health and environmental challenges through education. HEEC believes education is power and that a well informed public is healthier and stronger in solving its health and environmental issues.
